Imam (teacher of Religion / leader of the Prayers) Sulaiman Zahir Salaam, Jr. has envisioned the establishment of a balanced G-d centered model for all communities. Imam Salaam is a very dedicated, studious and well traveled leader. His many travels have taken him to places such as the Vatican in Rome, twice, representing the late Imam Warith Deen Mohammed and the Muslim community in the United States. And, most importantly, in 2002, he was Blessed to perform the rites of Hajj (pilgrimage/journey to the Holy City of Mecca, Saudi Arabia) which every Muslim is obligated to experience, at least once in his or her lifetime. During all of his adult life, Imam Salaam has been a student of, and has been inspired by the Religious teachings, scriptural language, knowledge and interpretation by the late Imam Warith Deen Mohammed. But for certain, Imam Salaam's beliefs and spiritual / scriptural understanding are well rooted in The Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah (way of the prophet) of Mohammed the Prophet (pbuh).
Imam Salaam considers himself a follower of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and a student of late Imam W.D. Mohammad (May God’s Peace be upon him also). His beliefs and teachings are rooted in The Holy Quran and the Sunnah (way or the example of the Prophet Muhammad – God’s Peace Be upon him).
A true visionary, Imam Salaam believes that with faith and hard work, he can be instrumental in helping to establish a G-d centered community; one that can be a model for all communities striving to address the spiritual, political, cultural, economic and educational needs of it’s members.
Imam Salaam earned the title of El- Hajj in the year 2002 after completion of the Hajj (pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca) which is an obligation for every Muslim who is able, at least once in his or her lifetime.
As an Imam, Imam Salaam has set for himself the following goals:
1. To assist in the establishment of a model Islamic community that not only addresses the spiritual needs of its members; but also their social, economic, culture, political and educational needs. 2. To be a living example of the peaceful and rewarding life that G’d calls all his servants to. 3. To Help others come to understand, and see the religion of Al-Islam in its proper context and through the most balanced of interpretations. 3. To Call all people to the best of humanity 4. To Assist in the cultivation of all of G-d’s servants towards greater social, spiritual, cultural, political, and economic values based on the guidance of the Holy Quran, and the examples of Muhammad the prophet (May G-d’s blessing and Peace be Upon Him).
Imam Sulaiman was presented with the "Merging Leadership Award" by the Heartland Chapter of the Muslim American Council after years of Interfaith work with Harmony; The Focalore Movement of the Catholic Church; participating in Interfaith Dialog with Leaders of various faiths in Rome, Italy; being the representative for Imam W.D. Muhammad and a guest speaker at the World Youth Day and Gen Fest (Rome, Italy); and speaking at over 50 Churches after the September 11th Tragedy.
Recently he was appointed as an Ambassador for Peace by the World Federation of Peace.
Imam Salaam delivers a public address on the 2nd Sunday of every month at the Public Library in Kansas City entitled "Embracing Concepts that Help Us to Live A More G-d Centered, Peaceful and Productive Life.”
